Spotlight

Why give our young people professional arts training if there are no opportunities for them once they graduate?  For emerging artists who are working to develop professional careers in the performing arts, Le Spotlight offers an opportunity to demonstrate their musical theatre talents in the heart of downtown Montreal.

Le Spotlight is Montreal’s annual musical theatre challenge. Nine finalists will present two excerpts from the world of musical theatre, backed by a live orchestra, in front of a professional jury and members of the public.  As always, the winner will receive a featured role during this summer’s edition of The Next Wave Festival of New Musicals in August.

Preliminary auditions for this 5th anniversary edition of Le Spotlight were held in March 2011.  The selected finalists will receive coaching from a Montreal-based musical theatre professional.  Finalists will then perform in public at the Gesù Theatre on Wednesday evening, June 1st.  This year’s finalists include:  Alisha Ruiss, Maggie Owen, Sophie Protopoulos, Dane Stewart, Lisa Ashley Gontovnick, Eva Petris, Luc-Jean Gagnon, Emilie Allard and Shoshanna Bell.

The winner of Le Spotlight must be more than just a good singer.  He or she must impress the judges with a complete, multi-faceted performance.  Each candidate will be evaluated based on several different criteria, including musical and dramatic interpretation, movement skills, song selection, personal style and choice of appropriate attire.

You are invited to assist our judges in selecting the top performer for this year’s edition of Le Spotlight.  Please join us on June 1st at the Gesù, 1200 Bleury (metro Place des Arts).
